Hi,
I wanted to share with you a little bit about why we created our summer reading program.
For me, it was because of my students.
For many years of teaching in my personal learning center, moms and dads would bring their kids to me that lagged in reading and spelling.

Often they were simply a little bit behind, in some cases they were way behind, and in some cases they were at grade level and simply wanted to progress faster.
In some cases this was due to the fact that the trainees had learning troubles like dyslexia and ADHD. Other times, this was simply due to the fact that the teachers did not teach all of the specific abilities needed to check out.
There is a science-proven, step-by-step manner in which all kids can prosper with reading. Unfortunately, teachers themselves often are not taught how to teach kids in this way.

The issue was that I was just able to see them for an hour at a time and only twice a week.
How could I get these students' abilities up while not just supplying a band-aid service?
Traditional tutors frequently reading program with spelling and phonics Carrollton - TX state just work on homework. This does not deal with the root cause of trainees' troubles and does not in fact get their abilities up.
I went to the research study and what I found out from my coaches in my early years of teaching.
I discovered that short activities frequently produce better outcomes than long labored work.
I found that teaching in a methodical and structured way to target each location of reading and spelling worked.

I found that brief day-to-day fluency practice assists all trainees check out much faster, more accurately, and inherently enhances their comprehension abilities.
I found that utilizing graphic organizers helps trainees find the main idea and information, series events, and organize their ideas to enhance their comprehension. Students could lastly comprehend and imagine what they read.
I discovered that many words in English follow 8 specific spelling patterns and when you learn the patterns, spelling becomes much easier and spelling lastly makes good sense.
I discovered that brain-body activities enhance neuroplasticity and equate to making discovering much easier in all locations.
I found that executive function abilities were often not taught in school. These skills are so important, not simply with planning for school jobs but in life.

I found that mentor through our senses (hearing, seeing, and doing) enhanced their reading and spelling skills quicker. It did not matter if they had learning challenges or if they were just simply aiming to advance faster.
I assemble a program of these findings into short 5-20 minute daily activities that I might do with my students.
It wasn't long before my trainees and moms and dads started seeing significant results. Trainees that lagged by 1-2 years typically got up to grade level in 2-4 months.
Educators started to ask what I was finishing with these kids. Parents needed to know what the magic sauce was.
I knew I needed to make my program readily available to more trainees no matter where they live. I required to make the program in a way that parents can do it with their kids on their schedule at home.
This is why I established the summer reading program.
